PLEASE NOTE: By submitting the form below, you are notifying the LAFD CERT UNIT of your interest in training to be on the Call-Out Team. Submittal of this form DOES NOT put you on the Call-Out roster nor allow you to attend Call-Out events, it just begins the process. We thank you for your interest and hope after your training to see you on the Call-Out Team.
There is one Call-Out Team for the City. This gives everyone equal opportunity to respond.
CERT members will not self-dispatch to any incident. Only the CERT Call-Out Teams that are requested by the LAFD may respond.
LAFD ALERT Messages (email, Twitter, radio etc.) are not official instructions or authorization to take action.
Call-Out Team members will receive notice of the call-out from the automated call-out system.

Prerequisite Classroom Training
- Completion of the FEMA CERT Training Curriculum (Certification Required)
Prerequisite Online Training (FEMA Independent Study)
- IS 100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS 100 – (06/25/2018)
- IS 200.c: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response – (03/11/2019)
- IS-288.a: The Role of Voluntary Organizations in Emergency Management – (02/25/2015)
- IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System – (06/25/2018)
- IS-800.d: National Response Framework, an Introduction – (03/27/2018)
- IS-20.24: Diversity Awareness Course 2024- (10/23/24)
Prerequisite Recommendation
- Recommended by a LAFD CERT Coordinator (Battalion or Bureau)
- Recommendations are based on the activity / involvement level and attendance of LAFD CERT Battalion Meetings past a minimum of (4) Meetings to be eligible
Prerequisite Screening (Selected Candidates to Move on In the Process)
- Submission of LAFD CERT Call-Out Team Application
- Submit to a LiveScan background check
- Interview with LAFD CERT Unit Command/Administrators
Required Training Upon Completion of Background Check and Selection
- Call-Out Team Academy (20 Hours Total)
Required Paperwork (Prior to Swear-In)
- Cal OES Disaster Service Worker Volunteer Registration
- Los Angeles Fire Department Volunteer Application
- Los Angeles Fire Department Volunteer Applicant Acknowledgement of City of Los Angeles Policies
Final Process
- Sworn in as Disaster Service Worker
Optional Training/Certification Upon Swear-In and Completion of Above
- DVOC — Defensive Vehicle Operator Course (Required to Drive LAFD Class C Vehicles)
Disqualification for LAFD CERT Call-Out Team Member Selection
(Subject to Change based on LAFD Risk Management and City of Los Angeles modifications)
- Refusal to Submit to background check
- Felony Convictions of any kind
- Other than Honorable discharges from the military
- Convictions of/or history of, however not limited to:
- Assault (of any kind)
- Battery (of any kind)
- Stalking
- Theft
- Larceny
- Related or Perceived Hate Crime
- Sexual Assault
- Arson
- Murder
- Attempted Murder
