The Los Angeles Fire Department CERT Program is proud to introduce LAFD CERT Spotlight John Gilbert.
John is an award winning film editor with nearly 30 years of experience working for major Hollywood studios such as Universal, Paramount and Sony. John’s career spans both theatrical films and television projects. Some of his film projects include American Pie, Atlas Shrugged and The Scorpion King. John’s work in television includes Hawaii Five-0,Teen Wolf and VIP for which he won an Emmy© award. John is a current member of the Motion Picture Editors Guild and served on the Board of Directors from 2002-2007. He is also a member of the American Cinema Editors, a highly esteemed organization for accomplished film industry editors. John holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Film and Electronic Arts from California State University, Long Beach. John is an avid distance runner, having successfully completed 10 Los Angeles Marathons and a frequent tournament golfer.
Outside of the film industry John is a consummate community volunteer. He is a member of the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), specifically Battalion 10 located in the San Fernando Valley.
John completed his CERT basic training in the spring of 2017 and quickly jumped into additional training offered by the Lafd Cert Unit, eventually joining the LAFD-CERT #CallOutTeam. As an LAFD Call Out Team Member, John deployed to several devastating wildfires within Los Angeles such as the 2017 La Tuna Fire , 2017 CreekFire, 2018 Griffith Park Fire, and recently the deadly Woolsey Fire.
Gilbert also has countless smaller incidents under his belt as part of a CERT #Hydration and Firefighter Rehab Unit.
John is also a member of the LAFD-Auxiliary Communications Service (ACS) and holds Amateur Extra License, the highest FCC Ham Radio license offered.
John takes a proactive role in his community not only as a CERT member but as a Neighborhood Watch Block Captain and a five-block area Neighborhood Watch Commander.
John recently collaborated with the Los Angeles Fire Department’s CERT Unit generating the first LAFD CERT video of 2019 “Are You Disaster Ready?”. John Gilbert is committed to a culture of disaster preparedness and is an absolute asset to the Los Angeles Fire Department CERT Program.
